tinybitmad: (I has a book!)

(no subject)

Yesterday's curse was so inspiring that I just felt I had to offer my own -- well, I think it's art. But I suppose you'll have to judge for yourselves. I'm sure you'll scorn me. You always do.

I give you, dear City...

An Ode To Cain Hargreaves.
Presented in Villanelle

And so becomes our good friend Cain:
this tale's of he, of might and steel --
when all's been told, a royal pain.

Tho' he (it's said) is never vain
there's little doubt he flaunts and preens
as well becomes our good friend Cain.

And well he should, one without shame.
A peerless peer, if well you will.
When all's been told, he's quite a pain.

Yet never would he fib, nor fain
to frolic. An iron spine (braced by
a broomstick) has our good friend Cain.

Still, to us lowly proles he'll deign
to speak, advise or nose about
where he's unwanted. S'truth, a pain.

So o're us all may long he reign
(though like the oxen, he is lame)
a haughty, stuffy, grumpy pain
is he, Hargreaves, our dear friend Cain.

That was quite enjoyable, actually. Who shall I honor next? Luke? Anita, I'm afraid your name provides simply too few rhyming opportunities.

You have my undying admiration for that. COPYPASTA GET

Ought I to be impressed at your doggerel?

I'm pretty impressed with myself. Not gonna lie.

You don't like it?

You should be. Villanelle's kicked my ass back when I was studying poetry

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose it's written in comprehensible language and obeys poetic form, and that is rather impressive for someone like you.

[identity profile] ninefingered.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
My, that is quite delightful!

The trick is to pick your rhymes, write the poem, and then pare down syllables *nod*

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
See? No thanks. I knew it. Didn't I say so?

1/1--does not really exist

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
..Yes?

[identity profile] ninefingered.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I meant the rhyme, you are quite the minstrel.

._.v Alas, my fail. I actually have a hard time rhyming.

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine why I'd thank you for an insult.

I suck. But "Cain" was easy. uhm... Thanks?

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's a present.

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

[identity profile] ninefingered.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
He must be a dear friend, this Cain Hargreaves.

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
The best. But I don't think he liked my verse.

:3

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
You really shouldn't have.

XD!

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps a followup?

I'm very much a fan of the epic...

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I was only just speaking with a friend of mine about favourite stories. Perhaps I ought to take up writing them. As you've included me in a poem, perhaps I could include you in a story.

[identity profile] ninefingered.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
You did call him a pain.

[identity profile] browning-baby.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
What a shame. I'll have to console myself.

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps a slant rhyme with "theatre"... this bears thought.

[identity profile] browning-baby.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Don't strain yourself.

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
For me? Oh, please don't put yourself out, Cain.

Besides, I don't know where you'd find the time between posting to the network as you do.

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I meant every word. Especially the second line of the final stanza.

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I promise you, love, it's no strain.

[identity profile] browning-baby.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
It is if you're using that tiny little brain of yours. Oh, and don't call me that. Only one person can.

[identity profile] tinybitmad.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
So touchy.
